In addition to writing and editing, I have a background in community organizing, issues of food security, and organic farming. I am a former co-owner of a southern Arizona vegetable farm and the co-founder of the Farmer Education & Resource Network (FERN), a nonprofit focused on training a new generation of Arizona farmers through apprenticeships. I serve on the Leadership Council for the Pima County Food Alliance and am an appointed commissioner for the City of Tucson's Commission for Food Security, Heritage, and Economy.
In my writing about food systems and farming, I seek to amplify the voices of farmers by tackling relevant issues, including rural poverty, farmer behavioral health, water issues, food insecurity among farmers, and more. My farming and food writing has been featured in regional and national print and online publications, including in the 2016 Best of Food Writing anthology. I am a regular features contributor to Edible Baja Arizona. In 2016, I joined the Female Farmer Project team as a writing partner to document the rise of women in agriculture.
